Child of the Week!

Child Of The Week

Children need to know that they are special and also learn why each of their peers are also special in their own way.  Each week one of my sweethearts will be doing some special sharing.  All things brought to school throughout the week will be returned with your child.

Monday - Recite the poem “I am Special” please help your child learn the following poem:

“In all the world,
There cannot be,
Another person
Just like me.
I AM SPECIAL!”

Tuesday - “Photos of Me”, the student brings in a few photos (4-6) of themselves growing up, family...or if photos are unavailable, please have your child draw a picture of the family.

Wednesday - “I Made This”, the student will bring in something that they have made at home (picture, art, food, etc)

Thursday - “My Favourite Thing” - the student will bring in something that is special to them...(a book, favourite stuffed animal, pet, special collection, baby brother/sister...)

Friday - “I Can Teach” - the student teaches (or demonstrates) to us a fact, song, poem, word in another language, how something works,... Anything known well by the student

I hope that this will be a wonderful and special time for your child.  Thank you in advance for your help with this special activity.  An information sheet will be sent home when it’s your child’s turn.

Love Mrs. Petersson

*if you forget a day, or we have a holiday/pro-d during your child’s week we will combine a couple of days together!

Ted. E. Bear is Coming to Visit!

We are thrilled to introduce to you the newest member of our class ... Ted E. Bear!  He is very excited to visit each of your homes over the next several weeks, and I'm hoping that each of the Kindy's will have at least 2 visits with him before our Spring Break in March.  I have enclosed the letter that is enclosed in the front of his 'Memory Book' for you to read for more information.

Dear Parents,

Today your child is taking home “Ted E. Bear” our classroom bear.
Ted E. Bear will get to visit for one day (unless their visit lands on a Friday).  Please send Ted E. Bear and his suitcase (memory book, pencil, crayons, sleeping bag and dishes) back to school the next kindergarten day.
Your child is to complete a page in Ted E. Bear’s memory book about what he/she did while Ted E. Bear visited.  First, have your child draw a picture of something they did with Ted E. Bear, and then for this first visit write a sentence on the front or back of their page describing their adventure together for your child.  Your child and Ted E. Bear will share their adventure with their classmates during circle time the next day.
Ted E. Bear is looking forward to meeting your family and promises to be a well behaved guest in your home!  Have a fun visit and we look forward to hearing about Ted E. Bear’s visit with your child and your family!

Kindness Shown By My Kindy Parents!

I am continually blessed by the kindness of my parents!

... gifts from the heart (a beautiful beaded handmade piece of art)

... generous projects for our class (an amazing mailbox made for the Kindy's to use at our writing centre)

... and fabulous practical gifts for my Kindy's (brand new yellow ponchos that we can use to stay dry and stay visible when we walk to visit our Grandfriends!)

From my heart ... thank you!

The Pouring Rain Could Not Stop The Sun From Shining!

Our second day back to school meant that we would be off to see our  Grandfriends!  The cold, pouring rain, the fabulous puddles and the holes in our very used yellow ponchos could not dampen our spirits.  We were so excited to see our dear friends, as it had been a month since our last visit together.  The afternoon was spent chatting while we cut circles and details for our adorable snowman project!  All were excited to add the sparkly glitter buttons & carrot noses.  The little girls and boys along with the antique girls and boys were both very excited to complete their project to show each other.  The Grandfriends were also thrilled to have something to hang in their rooms to decorate for the Winter season.  I'm sure that all would have loved to have had a chance to make a snowman outside with real snow... or at least some were reminiscing about playing in the snow!  The huge smiles on the children's faces along our walk down the hill, along with the huge smiles when we arrived and greeted the staff and Grandfriends was as if the sun was really shining!  What a sensational way to start the year!  Happy New Year!

Giving You All Our Love!

For all the ways that you gave of your time last year, to all the ways that you will continue to help us grow in Kindergarten.... we are giving you ALL OUR LOVE!
Love Mrs. Petersson and her little Sweethearts!

Pancakes and PJ's!

Our last day of school before the Christmas break began with a delicious pancake breakfast provided by our wonderful P.A.C. and also the Lions Club.  We were treated to delicious pancakes along with fruit, sausages and juice.  The Grade 7's volunteered to clear tables and we were delighted to have Santa and Mrs. Claus stop by for a visit and a photo shoot!  Mrs. Claus brought more candy canes to share with us as well!  As you may have noticed we were able to crawl out of bed and attend school in our pj's!

Many smiles all day long... especially when chatting with Santa!  A lovely treat was that we were all at school on the last day before Christmas which was very special after so many missing school due to illness.  Wishing all a healthy 2013!

Sadly this last day before the Christmas break was also Ms Howard's last day...
we wish her well as she moves to a new school!

Hoping that your Christmas break has been restful and a special time together for you as families!  Thank you so much for all your special cards, gifts and all the ways that you give the gift of your time to help in whatever way you can on this journey called kindergarten!   It is truly special to be part of this journey together!
Love Mrs. Petersson

The Sweetest Teddy Bears In Town!

These sweet little teddy bears sang with everything in them at the Christmas Concert, and as you can imagine... the Kindy's stole the show!  With their sweet little hats, and the cozy costumes that the amazing Mom's made, one could not take their eyes off of these little sweethearts for a second!  Absolutely spectacular!  Many, many, many thanks to the amazing Mom's who helped with yet another project for these little sweethearts!

Snow Day!

As you can see by some of these faces posted here... the SNOW did not bring sad faces to these little Kindy's... perhaps because they do not need to worry about driving in the snow and all those adults worries... but rather they see the beauty and take time to enjoy what we certainly don't see too often around the lower mainland!  A motto that an outdoor clothing company uses is as follows ... 'there is no such thing as bad weather,  only unsuitable clothing!'  Dressing for the weather certainly makes a difference whether it is the snow or the rain!  Getting outside for fresh air is so important and definitely is an  opinion that the Kindy's embrace.  Please continue to encourage your children to dress for the weather!

A Sweet Time With Our Buddies!

We had some lovely parents help with assembling these little houses... they enjoyed the smell of sugar melting, and the visit with Ms Howard's Mom, who loves coming in to help with this December project!  She has put together so many of these little graham wafer houses through the years  and also put so many smiles on little Kindy faces!  Thanks so much Mom Howard for the time that you shared with us!
Anytime that we spend with our buddies is a sweet time but on this occasion it was especially SWEET!  By combining the candy that we brought in to share we were able to decorate our little houses, and WOW! they certainly looked sensational! I'm sure that once they arrived home, the appreciation for the designs was even greater for all those that have a sweet tooth!  Thanks so much for sending in the candy!
