December News 2012

December News

Dear Parents,

It is so hard to believe that we are already at the beginning of December.  The children and I have enjoyed so many adventures since September, and we appreciate all your support!  So grab a cup of coffee, hold on to your hats and take some time to read our update on the next three weeks before our Christmas break.

“Not a Box”
First of all... thank you so much for all your help with this project, it has been so exciting to see the wave of enthusiasm spread from the children who sat in cardboard boxes while the story “Not a Box” was read, to your enthusiasm to help your children put their dreams into reality.  Several projects have been already finished and we are excited to have the final designs completed by Wednesday, Dec 5th, please ensure that your child’s project is delivered to the school on or before Dec. 5th.  Our first exhibition is on Thursday December 6th for the PALS program (3-4 yr. olds and their parents) Our second exhibition will be next week on December 13th, when we have early dismissal (1:45pm) and parent teacher interviews.  We are hoping to organize another exhibition in January and will let you know the details as soon as possible (we may need your help with transportation of our special exhibition!)

“Santa Message”
Here is a link for you to check out if you haven’t seen it already, it is a new way to have your child connect with Santa and receive a video message.

“Multicultural Lunch”
This Friday December 7th,  we are looking forward to our special lunch.  If you are able to help with the set-up please join me in the gym at 10:30am... the arrangement will be similar to our lunch with the other kindergarten classes in October.  Also, if you are able to bring a main dish to share at this potluck, please bring the dish/serving spoons for 11:00am as we will be aiming to start eating at 11:15am.  A special part of our celebration includes the opportunity to wear clothing that represents the country that is part of your family heritage, or simply something that is red/white for Canada.  Looking forward to celebrating the variety of countries represented by our kindergarten families.  (don’t forget your camera!)  The children can bring a change of clothes for the afternoon if they prefer.

“Christmas Craft/Deck the Halls”
Friday afternoon after our lunch we will be enjoying an afternoon of Christmas crafts... if you would like to stay and help please let me know! We will have a variety of activities planned to help decorate our hallway, our classroom as well as create some special projects to give our Grandfriends on Tuesday December 11th.

“Grandfriends”
On Tuesday December 11th we walk to Cherington Place for another visit with our Grandfriends.  We will have a Christmas project to do together.  We have also invited our Grandfriends to James Ardiel to watch our afternoon Christmas performance on December 18th.

“Field trip to meet our Pen Pals” * December 14th
On Friday December 14th, we will be leaving the school at 9am to go and meet our kindergarten pen pals at KB Woodward Elementary School.  Mrs. Jones and her students have many fun gingerbread activities planned for us to enjoy together.  (*remember your car seat, and a small snack)  We will return to James Ardiel to eat lunch.

*Please note, we are still in need of drivers for this adventure... If you are unable to stay but are able to drive us to KB Woodward and pick us up that would be a huge help! (please let me know as soon as you can!  KB Woodward is close by located near 104th ave and 132nd str)

“Christmas Concert”
Our performance day is December 18th with two performances (afternoon and evening)  You won’t want to miss our performances as teddy bears!  Remember to order your tickets as soon as possible for this special event and charge up those cameras!

“Pancake Breakfast”
Our last day of school before the Christmas break is started with a pancake breakfast!  You won’t want to miss this special event hosted by our PAC group.  Join us that day for yummy pancakes, a visit from Santa if he isn’t too busy and a day to spend in our pj’s!  You are welcome to come and eat with your kids before school starts...all classes will be invited down to eat throughout the morning!  We will spend the rest of the day in our classroom, cozy in our pj’s (please have your kids bring their favourite teddy bear or stuffy, and a cozy blanket to snuggle up with!)

The next few weeks will go by quickly with all the fun activities that we have planned, and who knows there may be a another one or two added!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support with all our adventures this year in kindergarten!  Together we will create a year that our little sweethearts won’t forget!  If you have any questions, please let me know!  (email:    artfromtheheart.petersson@gmail.com   )

Enjoy your week!

Love Mrs. Petersson

P.S. Don’t forget to check our class blog for highlights on our adventures as well!
